How does online tutoring work?

The student and the tutor will meet online using a virtual classroom that includes a whiteboard, text chat, and voice over the internet capability. The student and tutor will be able to talk to each other via a headset and share a whiteboard where both the student and tutor can see each other’s written material and write as if using a chalk board in school. The text chat is also available as an additional mode of communication between the student and tutor.

How does Excel Students monitor the progress of my child?

An initial assessment is performed to determine the student’s strengths and weaknesses in the subject. With this initial assessment, we are able to identify how the student compares with his or her state standards. On-going homework, quizzes, and exams will be given to the student to reinforce the concepts learned in the classroom. On-going assessments will be given to students to measure student’s progress. These post-assessments help Excel Students to determine whether the weak areas of the student is being improved upon, the student’s strong areas are maintained, and whether the student is making progress towards the next grade level.

Is online tutoring effective? How do you ensure that it is effective?

Studies in the last 5 years have proven that online education is a very effective method of teaching. This is one of the reasons why distance learning courses have emerged in Colleges and Universities. Online tutoring provides the same level of education as in-center tutoring without the hassle of dropping your child to the tutoring center and having to pick your child up. With Excel Students, you also save over 60% from the traditional tutoring centers with the convenience of being tutored from your own home and having the ability to monitor the progress of your child. Please Compare Us to other tutoring providers.

Our curriculum based tutoring, which follows your state's standards along with a customized Individual Learning Plan allows our tutoring to be very effective for the students. Our experienced and qualified tutors have a passion for teaching and they must pass our rigorous training and certification process to become certified tutors for Excel Students.

What are the qualifications of the tutors?

All of our tutors have at least a Bachelor’s degree in the subject they teach and 90% of our tutors hold a Master’s degree or a double degree. Most tutors have over 10 years of experience in teaching or tutoring and have a passion for teaching. All tutors must pass our rigorous training and certification program to become certified tutors. Only 15% of applicants become certified tutors. All tutors are provided on-going training and testing to ensure competency in the subject they teach.

How does the Motivational Program work?

The Motivational Program helps ensure that students will pay attention and actively participate during the tutoring sessions. Keeping the student motivated and attentive is the key in ensuring that they are able to understand the materials covered. During a tutoring session, the tutor will give the student points for doing well in class and for active participation. The student accumulates the points and they can use these points to get rewards or prizes from Excel Students. This may include gift certificates, school materials, etc… Parents are able to view the number of points their child has earned from the Parent Portal. The students are able to view their points, view all the available rewards, and redeem their points for the reward of their choice from the Student Portal.

What are the services you provide?

Excel Students provide one-on-one tutoring services to students in the grade levels 3-12 and college in the subjects of Math and Science. We have two types of tutoring services: scheduled tutoring services and on-demand tutoring services. The scheduled one-on-one tutoring service is a pre-scheduled tutoring session between a student and a tutor. The on-demand tutoring allows the student to get help from a tutor without any pre-scheduled tutoring sessions. Read additional information on Our Services page

What are your tutoring hours?

We are currently offering tutoring from 1:00pm to 10:00pm in CST. We will be happy to accommodate you if this timing does not work for you.
